Trillanes on Rody accounts - P2B not P200 M

MANILA, Philippines -  Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV yesterday corrected President Duterte with regard to the P200 million that he had allegedly stashed away in bank accounts.

Trillanes said that what he claimed was not that the President had P200 million in his accounts, but rather over P2 billion, which Duterte never declared in his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).
“By the way, my allegation wasn’t P200 million but more than P2 billion in accumulated credits in your bank accounts,” Trillanes said.
“Just sign a waiver para magkaalaman na. Sinungaling ka (so that the truth will come out. You are a liar),” he added.
In speeches last Thursday, the President lashed out at the Philippine Daily Inquirer and ABS-CBN for their supposedly unfair reporting when it came to issues involving him.
He cited in particular the reports on Trillanes’ allegations that Duterte and his family members failed to disclose billions of pesos in bank transactions over a period of several years when he was still mayor of Davao City.
Duterte has denied the allegations but this has not satisfied Trillanes, who has repeatedly challenged him to sign a waiver on the secrecy of bank deposits so that the details of his bank accounts would be made public.
“Mr. President, if the media reports based on my allegations weren’t true, then why didn’t you just sue me for libel?” Trillanes said.
Trillanes has filed a complaint of plunder against the President before the Office of the Ombudsman while his colleague from the Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano has filed an impeachment complaint against Duterte before the House of Representatives.

Robredo warned on Duterte dinner invite

Don’t be deceived by President Duterte again.

This was the advice Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV gave on Sunday to Vice President Leni Robredo following the Chief Executive’s dinner invitation to her.

The advice was also for “people monitoring what’s happening that they should be well aware of these tricks of deception constantly being used by (Mr.) Duterte and his lieutenants,” according to Trillanes.

“Assuming she accepts the invitation, she should go to that dinner with eyes wide open,” Trillanes said in a phone interview.
‘It’s a trap’

In a statement, the senator warned Robredo “not (to) fall for that trap again” meant to “disarm and politically neutralize her at this time that (Mr.) Duterte is facing the biggest political storm yet of his term as President.”

The President is not only facing an impeachment complaint in the House of Representatives but also an impending case before the International Criminal Court regarding his alleged involvement in the Davao Death Squad and extrajudicial killings of drug suspects, Trillanes said.

He said Mr. Duterte had used this strategy before with Robredo when he belatedly offered her a Cabinet post under public pressure.

Robredo later resigned as housing secretary after she was barred from attending Cabinet meetings.

Respect for mandate

As for the President’s call for political truce and respect for his mandate, Trillanes said: “We respect the electoral mandate of President Duterte but that does not exempt him from being accountable for the crimes he has committed.”

“You are not above the law,” he told the President.

Mr. Duterte invited Robredo to dinner after he had asked his allies to stop any impeachment bid against her, and yet accused her of being eager to replace him at the same time.

Aguirre defiant

On Friday night, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said he was defying Mr. Duterte’s order to his political allies to jettison all efforts to unseat Robredo, who has denied wrongdoing.

Aguirre, who was able to keep the justice portfolio despite being embroiled in a P50-million bribery scandal, belittled the President’s call as he opted to support instead House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez’s initiative to impeach Robredo.

Like in his previous conflicting statements, Mr. Duterte told the Filipino community during his visit in Bangkok last week that the Vice President was itching to replace him, just a few hours before instructing his supporters to stop any attempt to oust her from office.

“I am going to support (the impeachment of Robredo) … . I know the Speaker is pushing for it,” Aguirre told reporters after attending a gathering of lawyers in Pasay City.

“It’s just the President’s personal opinion. But it will be the Congress’ call, not the President’s call,” he added.

The justice secretary said he believed there was a basis in moving for the impeachment of Robredo, who surmised that her bitter political rival, former Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr., was behind the moves to impeach her.

Impeachment complaint

Oliver Lozano, a longtime Marcos loyalist and lawyer, brought the first impeachment complaint against the widow of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, accusing her of culpable violation of the Constitution, acts of injustice and betrayal of public trust for sending a video message to the UN critical of the administration.

Interestingly, Aguirre was recently seen attending a public event with Marcos, the son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos who lost to Robredo in the May 2016 balloting.

“What she did was to embarrass the Philippines. So I’m sure that aside from damaging the image of the Philippines, it would also affect the economy,” Aguirre said.

He, however, was mum when asked if he would also support the plan to impeach Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales over her decision to absolve former President Benigno Aquino III in connection with the Disbursement Acceleration Program fund controversy.

Drama lang iyan: Trillanes doubts Dutertes sincerity defending Robred

MANILA — "Drama lang iyan."
This is how Senator Antonio Trillanes IV interprets President Rodrigo Duterte's recent pronouncements defending Vice-President Leni Robredo from individuals who want to remove her from office.
Trillanes said Duterte is taking on the role of a "good cop" to distract the public from thinking he has something to do with impeachment plans against Robredo.

"Mag-ingat kayo maniwala diyan kay President Duterte kasi doble kara iyan," he said in an interview on DZMM on Saturday. "Drama lang iyan. Huwag kayo papalinlang diyan kasi nababasa namin iyan."
(Be careful believing President Duterte. He is two-faced. This is all staged. You shouldn't be fooled, because we can see through him.)
Earlier this week, Duterte came to Robredo's defense and rejected ouster plots against her.
"We just had an election. Guys, lay off. Stop it. Do other things but don't tinker with structure of government," Duterte said.
Trillanes also took a swipe at House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, who first floated the idea of removing Robredo from office.
"[Iyan si] Speaker Alvarez sunud-sunuran iyan kay President Duterte . . . Kaya hindi sila sumusuway kasi alam nila na panghugas kamay lang iyan ni President Duterte," he added.
(Speaker Alvarez is a loyal follower of President Duterte. He will not disobey the president because he knows that this is just a ploy to deflect blame off of him.)

Trillanes calls Duterte Pathological Liar

Saying President Duterte was a “pathological liar,” Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV on Thursday dared him to prove his accusation that he had extorted money from businessmen and to file a case against him.
Trillanes also challenged anew the President to open his bank accounts  to disprove his own allegation that Mr. Duterte had no hidden wealth.

“That is a lie coming from a pathological liar,” Trillanes said of the President who made the accusation against Trillanes in a speech before the Filipino community in Thailand Wednesday night.

In a statement, the senator said if the President’s allegation is true, the Chief Executive should come out with details of his alleged extortion on businessmen and to file a case against him.

“I will face that case,” he said, recalling that when he accused Mr. Duterte of having over P2 billion in his bank accounts, he had come out with documents and witnesses to support his claim against the President.

Trillanes also said he even filed a plunder case against President Duterte but noted to this day, the latter had not addressed his accusations.

“So enough of your bluffs, open your bank accounts,” Trillanes told President Duterte.

Trillanes to Rody: Just answer allegations

MANILA, Philippines -  President Duterte should just answer the allegations raised against him instead of responding with lies, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV said yesterday.
Meanwhile, the militant youth group Anakbayan said the repeated threats of Duterte to declare martial law should not be taken lightly.
Trillanes made the comment as Duterte accused him of extortion activities against big businessmen, which the senator denied.
“That is a lie coming from a pathological liar. If that is true then he should present the details and file a case against me,” Trillanes said.

According to Trillanes, he would face whatever cases would be filed against him.
Unlike Duterte, Trillanes said he came out with specific details in his allegations against the President.
Trillanes alleged the President owned several bank accounts, the accumulated balances of which ran up to over P1 billion over the years.
None of these were declared in the President’s statements of assets, liabilities and net worth during the years that he was mayor of Davao City.
Trillanes has also presented two self-confessed Davao death squad (DDS) members – Edgar Matobato and retired police officer Arthur Lascañas, who testified about the killings they allegedly did upon orders of Duterte.
“I came out with specific details, documents and witnesses and I filed a case against him in support of the allegations I raised against him,” Trillanes said.
“He continues to hide. So stop the lies and open your bank accounts,” he added.
Trillanes belongs to the Magdalo, which has filed an impeachment complaint against the President through Rep. Gary Alejano of the party-list group.
Reacting to the latest remark made by the President on Thursday upon arrival from Thailand, the youth group cautioned the Chief Executive against toying with the idea of martial law.
“The public should be vigilant against Duterte’s martial law threats… The President’s repeated threats of imposing military rule show that his authoritarian ambitions are serious,” Anakbayan national chair Vencer Crisostomo said.
“We strongly condemn these martial law threats and proposals to create military courts. Duterte is lying when he says martial law measures will solve the country’s ills. In truth, this will only worsen social injustice and human rights violations,” he added.
Duterte said declaring martial law could solve the problems of the country, including the proliferation of illegal drugs.
“If I declare martial law, I will finish all the problems, not just drugs,” Duterte was quoted as saying.
Anakbayan, however, warned that Duterte could turn into another dictator like Ferdinand Marcos.
They noted that even without the declaration of martial law, he has already unleashed “state terror” in the form of the war on drugs that has killed almost 8,000 people.

Trillanes dares pathological liar Duterte to prove extortion claim

MANILA - Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Thursday challenged President Rodrigo Duterte to file charges against him if the latter can prove that he extorted money from businessmen.
Duterte, in a speech before the Filipino community in Thailand, alleged that Trillanes collected money from big businesses that are afraid to turn the senator away.
"That is a lie coming from a pathological liar. Kung totoo yan, ilabas nya ang mga detalye at kasuhan nya ako. Haharapin ko yan," Trillanes said in a statement.
(If that is true, he should reveal details and lodge complaints against me. I will face that.)
Trillanes added that he bared "specific details [and] documents" to back up his own accusations against Duterte, including keeping over P2 billion in secret bank accounts and alleged involvement in the Davao Death Squad.
Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella has denied the allegations, dubbing the lawmaker "overly imaginative and very dramatic."
