Duterte says he fired 92 government employees in March alone

MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday said he fired 92 government employees from various agencies in line with his promise to purge his administration of corruption.
Duterte said the public workers were removed from their posts this month.
Without mentioning names, he said one of the employees he fired was a man who had been a part of his team since 1988.
"The first wave of corruption, it's finished," he said in a speech during the groundbreaking ceremony of a P700-million drug rehabilitation center in Bukidnon.
Earlier this month, Duterte acknowledged that he asked Peter Laviña to resign from his post as the administrator of the National Irrigation Administration after the latter was accused of extortion.
Duterte said that, although he was hurt by accusations leveled at Laviña, a longtime friend, the president set aside his personal feelings to show that he means business.
Other employees allegedly dismissed were from the Bureau of Customs, the Bureau of Internal Revenue and regulatory board members of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
"I said do not f*ck the government with its money, because if you do then we cannot understand each other," he said.
