BACOLOD CITY – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday filed graft and corruption complaints against a revenue officer in Bacolod City.
The NBI filed complaints of violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, violation of the Code of Ethical Standards for Government Officials and Employees, and direct dribery against Julie Hernaez, a revenue officer of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
She was arrested Wednesday in an entrapment operation at the BIR office in Barangay Taculing.
Hernaez posted a P60,000 bail Wednesday afternoon, said NBI Bacolod Special Investigator William de Arca.
She was brought to the attention of the NBI by Genevieve Buenaflor, operations manager of JP Ramos Trading Corp., a company that sells equipment to sugar mills.
According to NBI Bacolod Agent-in-Charge Renoir Baldovino, Buenaflor complained to them on Tuesday that Hernaez demanded money in exchange for reducing the amount of taxes that their company was due to pay.
The company was supposed to pay P500,000 in taxes, but Hernaez said she could bring the amount down to P250,000, inclusive of her commission. Half was supposed to go to the BIR, while the remainder was to be pocketed by Hernaez, the NBI said.
